Obverse description Intaglio portrait of Jan van Riebeeck in an oval guilloche frame at left, set against a vignette of Table Mountain with a harbour scene below; three sailing ships appear at lower right in fine engraved detail. The promise-to-pay text is rendered in both English and Afrikaans in italic script, with bilingual denomination panels at each corner and the bank name in bold letterpress across the top.

Reverse description Central intaglio vignette of a rampant lion standing over a scroll bearing the motto EX UNITATE VIRES, executed in fine line engraving against a light guilloche underprint. The bilingual bank name is set in large letterpress letters to the left and right of the lion, with the denomination inscribed in English at the bottom and Afrikaans at the top, all framed by ornate guilloche rosette panels in each corner.
