| Beschrijving keerzijde | At the centre of the reverse, a naturalistically rendered leek — the heraldic emblem of Wales — rises prominently from a Royal Diadem crown, its broad flat leaves fanning outward and its white bulb and roots visible below the crown base. The Royal Diadem, adorned with crosses-pattée and fleurs-de-lis, encircles the stem of the leek and serves as the primary decorative framing element. The denomination ONE POUND is inscribed in two lines along the lower portion of the field in raised lettering. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded border, and the deeply mirrored proof fields accentuate the fine relief of the leek's foliate detail. The composition, engraved by Leslie Durbin, is a celebrated example of mid-1980s British commemorative coin artistry. |
