| 正面描述 | Fourth effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, modelled by Ian Rank-Broadley, depicted as a right-facing diademed and draped bust wearing a tiara and drop earring. The peripheral legend reads ELIZABETH II D G REG F D, with the date 2012 positioned at lower right. The engraver's initials IRB appear beneath the truncation of the neck. The portrait is rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished proof field, characteristic of Royal Mint proof coinage of this era. |

The 2012 Royal Shield pound was the final year of the shield reverse design before the £1 coin's complete redesign program began in earnest — the resulting 12-sided bi-metallic replacement wouldn't enter circulation until 2017. This proof silver issue with selective gold plating was struck specifically for collector sets and saw no circulation whatsoever. The underlying circulating version had itself been introduced only in 2008, making the shield design's run unusually short by Royal Mint standards.
