Additional information

The Isle of Man's aggressive platinum coinage program in the mid-1980s was driven largely by Pobjoy Mint's commercial strategy of issuing collector-targeted proof sets in multiple metals simultaneously — gold, silver, and platinum versions of the same type released in parallel. The 1985 pound series, featuring Christopher Ironside's Ramsey town design alongside Raphael Maklouf's newly adopted effigy, was among the first Isle of Man issues to use the Maklouf portrait after it replaced Arnold Machin's likeness across Commonwealth issues that year.

Platinum proofs from this program were struck in very small numbers and distributed almost exclusively through specialist dealers.
