Alderney has operated as a prolific commemorative issuer since the 1990s, producing coins under the authority of the States of Alderney but struck by the Pobjoy Mint and later the Tower Mint on contract. This piece marks the four-monarch span from Victoria through Elizabeth II — a stretch of roughly 170 years during which the Channel Islands maintained their distinct constitutional status as Crown Dependencies, subject to the Crown but outside the United Kingdom and the EU, a legal position that became pointed again during Brexit negotiations just as this coin was issued.
