Obverse description Right-facing draped and crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, modelled by Raphael David Maklouf, wearing the George IV State Diadem, pearl drop earrings, and a necklace. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the left periphery and ALDERNEY along the right, with the date 2001 positioned in the lower exergue. The engraver's initials RDM appear on the truncation of the bust. The mirrored proof field provides sharp contrast against the finely detailed relief.

Additional information

Alderney, the smallest of the three main Channel Islands with a civilian population that rarely exceeds 2,000, has issued collector coins through the Royal Mint since the 1990s primarily as a revenue mechanism — the island has no meaningful domestic circulation for such pieces. The 2001 pound fits squarely in that program.

KM#73 has not been associated with any documented production anomaly or historically notable occasion that distinguishes it from the broader Alderney commemorative output of the period.
