Reverse description The central device depicts a naturalistically rendered flax plant (Linum usitatissimum), symbolic of Northern Ireland, with spreading stems bearing delicate five-petalled flowers in full bloom and detailed root system visible below. The plant springs from atop a Royal Diadem crown rendered in fine relief at centre, all set within an inner beaded border. The denomination ONE POUND is inscribed in two lines along the lower arc of the field, engraved by Leslie Durbin in a bold, upright serif lettering style.
