Reverse description At the centre of the reverse, a large ornate imperial 'N' monogram of Napoleon Bonaparte is displayed over a field densely populated with bees, Napoleon's personal emblem symbolising immortality and resurrection, chosen to connect his dynasty to the ancient Merovingian kings of France. The monogram is framed by a laurel wreath, surmounted by an imperial crown at the top and an orb at the base of the wreath. Along the outer legend, the inscription 'NAPOLÉON BONAPARTE' arcs across the upper field, while the dates '1769 - 1821' are positioned in the lower field, flanked on either side by a bee and the 'EIC' mint mark of the East India Company.
