Part of the Royal Mint's 2021 collaboration with Sanrio's Mr. Men Little Miss franchise, this piece belongs to a broader licensed collectibles program that has expanded aggressively since the Mint began pursuing pop-culture partnerships in the 2010s. The Little Miss Sunshine issue targets the gift and novelty collector market rather than numismatists proper.
Sanrio acquired the Mr. Men rights after the death of creator Roger Hargreaves in 1988, with his son Adam continuing the series.
