Alderney's Golden Jubilee gold pound belongs to a wave of commemorative issues authorized by the island's States assembly in the early 2000s, when small-denomination gold pieces in this fractional weight class were aggressively marketed to collectors across the Channel Islands and Britain. Alderney, the smallest of the three main bailiwicks and with a civilian population only resettled after German occupation ended in 1945, had no indigenous coinage tradition — its commemorative program is entirely a modern revenue exercise.
KM#91 is one of several concurrent Jubilee strikes from Alderney, each targeting a different collector tier by weight.
