| Obverse lettering | ELIZABETH II GIBRALTAR · 1989 PM |
| Reverse description | Central device depicting the Castle of Gibraltar, the territorial arms of Gibraltar, rendered as a three-towered Moorish fortification with a key suspended beneath the central gateway — emblematic of Gibraltar's role as the key to the Mediterranean. The castle is set within a raised inner circle, below which the denomination ONE POUND is inscribed in bold letters along the lower arc. The legend 150 ANNIVERSARY OF THE FIRST GIBRALTAR COIN curves along the upper periphery. The engraver's initials AA appear in small relief in the lower field to the left of the castle. The whole is enclosed within a dentilated outer border. |
