Beschrijving voorzijde Fourth crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, after the design by Jody Clark, occupying the central field against a finely guilloche-patterned background. The sovereign's portrait is rendered in high relief with fine detail. The peripheral legend arcs around the upper field reading ELIZABETH II · DG REGINA · F · D · ST.HELENA, with the engraver's initials JC below the truncation. The denomination ONE POUND and the date 2022 appear in the lower portion of the legend.

Beschrijving keerzijde A highly detailed, high-relief depiction of a coiled Indian cobra (Naja naja) with hood partially spread, facing right with forked tongue extended, set against a deeply recessed crosshatch-patterned field that creates a striking contrast with the polished relief of the serpent. A fine beaded border frames the design. The arc legend ONE OUNCE · CASH reads to the left, · 999 SILVER reads to the right, and the East India Company (EIC) cartouche mark appears at the lower right of the field.

Aanvullende informatie

Saint Helena's issuing authority has become a prolific vehicle for bullion and collector programs with no organic connection to the island's economy or history. This cobra piece is part of a broader "Cash India Wildlife" series, where the reverse designs draw on the visual vocabulary of old Indian cash coins — a loose historical reference to Saint Helena's role as an East India Company territory from 1659 until Crown assumption in 1834.

The Company administered the island primarily as a waystation on the Cape route. Its coinage history was thin and largely imported.
