Beschrijving keerzijde Central depiction of the Jersey-built brigantine 'Century' (1866) under full sail on stylized waves, rendered in fine relief. The vessel is shown with two masts carrying square and fore-and-aft sails, characteristic of the brigantine rig. The ship's name 'CENTURY 1866' appears in the lower field beneath the hull. The peripheral legend 'BAILIWICK OF JERSEY' arcs across the upper field, while 'ONE POUND' arcs along the lower border, all separated by raised dots and framed by a beaded inner border.

Aanvullende informatie

Part of Jersey's ongoing series celebrating local maritime heritage, this 1993 gold proof issue coincides with a period when the Bailiwick was actively expanding its commemorative coinage program as a revenue stream — a deliberate policy decision that accelerated through the late 1980s and 1990s. Jersey has no independent central bank; its currency relationship with the United Kingdom means these issues carry legal tender status locally but were produced squarely for the collector market.

KM#90b designates the gold proof variant within a multi-metal release, with the .917 fineness matching the traditional 22-carat standard used for British sovereign coinage.
