VE-Day on 8 May 1945 carried specific weight for the Channel Islands: they were the only British territory under German occupation during the war, and liberation came a day later, on 9 May — a date still observed separately in Guernsey, Jersey, and Alderney. The 75th anniversary commemorations planned for 2020 were largely dismantled by COVID-19 restrictions, making this issue a record of ceremonies that never took place.
