Reverse description The reverse presents Dan Thorne's contemporary interpretation of Britannia, depicted as a helmeted female figure in three-quarter view, gazing upward with an expression of resolute dignity. She holds a trident in her left hand and bears an ornate shield to her right, behind which the head of a lion emerges, symbolising British sovereignty and strength. Radiating sunrays emanate from behind the figure, while stylised waves fill the background to the right, evoking Britannia's dominion over the seas. The design is framed by a beaded inner border, with the legend BRITANNIA arching across the upper field, flanked by the fineness inscription 1/20oz 999.9 and FINE GOLD to the left and right respectively, and the date 2022 prominently displayed in the lower exergue. The engraver's initials DT appear incuse near the base of the figure.
