Additional information

The Edinburgh pound is one of four regional reverses issued between 2010 and 2011 completing the second set of UK one pound regional designs. The series was controversial in part because the Royal Mint had already been phasing out the one pound coin's format in anticipation of replacement — the notoriously forgeable design had by this point seen an estimated one in thirty-six coins in circulation identified as counterfeit, a figure that directly accelerated the 2017 switch to the bimetallic twelve-sided replacement.

Spink reference J30 places this among the Jersey and Guernsey-excluded UK issues, struck at Llantrisant.
