A laurel branch frames the upper field in a semicircular arrangement. A two-line Arabic inscription in the lower field records the date '26 March 1979' and commemorates the signing of the peace treaty. Issued to mark the implementation of the Camp David Accords framework, this coin appeared one year after Anwar Sadat and Menachem Begin signed the Egypt–Israel Peace Treaty in March 1979 — the agreement that returned the Sinai Peninsula to Egyptian sovereignty and earned both leaders the Nobel Peace Prize. Sadat's decision to pursue the treaty had already cost him expulsion from the Arab League and would cost him his life; he was assassinated in October 1981.
