Obverse description The central field features an elaborate tughra-style Arabic calligraphic inscription reading 'Arab Republic of Egypt' in ornate script, occupying the lower half of the coin. To the upper right, the numeral '١' (1) appears prominently, with the Arabic word 'جنيه' (Pound) to its left. The dual dates '١٤١٦ - ١٩٩٦' (AH 1416 – AD 1996) are inscribed across the upper field. The entire design is framed by a decorative rectangular-segmented border running along the inner rim.
