Obverse description The Isle of Man royal arms vignette at upper centre, supported by a lion and unicorn with sailing vessels in the background, flanked on the left by an allegorical group of women, a child, and recumbent sheep rendered in fine intaglio engraving. Reverse description The central vignette consists of a large circular guilloche medallion bearing the three-legged Manx triskelion arms, surrounded by the legend DOUGLAS, ISLE OF MAN / DUMBELL, SON & HOWARD, the whole set within an elaborate foliate scrollwork surround. Circular vignettes at left and right each contain an engraved view of an island castle, the left showing a ruined clifftop fortification and the right a coastal castle with vessels. The entire composition is framed by a fine lathe-work border.
