The arms are encircled by a wreath of laurel twigs. A raised circular legend surrounding the design reads CYPRUS · KYΠΡΟΣ · KIBRIS, rendered in Latin, Greek, and Turkish scripts respectively, followed by the issue year 1999.

Additional information

Cyprus struck this pound in 1999 as part of a broader push to raise the international profile of the island's native flora before EU accession negotiations intensified. The timing was deliberate — Cyprus formally applied for EU membership in 1990, and the decade that followed saw Cypriot institutions invest heavily in projecting a distinct cultural and natural identity ahead of what would become full accession in 2004.

KM#90 is a circulation-quality commemorative, not a proof issue, meaning examples that avoided pocket wear are harder to find than the mintage might suggest.
