Beschrijving voorzijde Portrait of John Pitcairn set within a circular guilloche frame at right, printed in purple intaglio. Central text panel carries the denomination ONE POUND STERLING and place of issue, Edinburgh, with date and signature of the General Manager below. Lower portion bears an elaborate allegorical vignette of three classical female figures in a chariot, with a cameo portrait medallion at centre, evoking themes of commerce and prosperity.

Beschrijving keerzijde The bank's full heraldic arms occupy the centre of the reverse, flanked by two rampant griffin supporters on a decorative foliate base, all rendered in purple intaglio. A seated allegorical female figure surmounts the shield above a ribbon bearing the bank's motto. To the left, a large oval guilloche panel carries a £1 sterling symbol, while a blank oval panel appears at right, both serving as anti-counterfeiting devices.
