The Colonial Bank operated across British Caribbean territories from its founding in 1836, and this note would have circulated in branches spanning Barbados, Trinidad, British Guiana, and several Leeward Islands simultaneously — the same printed stock serving multiple colonies, with branch designation filled in at issue. Perkins, Bacon & Petch were the dominant choice for colonial currency work throughout the Victorian period, their steel-engraved intaglio printing being specifically chosen to resist the kind of crude counterfeiting common in dispersed island economies with limited law enforcement reach.
The Colonial Bank was absorbed by Barclays in 1926, well after this series had been withdrawn.
