| Descrizione del dritto | The upper portion carries a central allegorical vignette of two female figures flanking a shield or armorial device, set against a harbour scene with fine guilloche surrounds and oval denomination panels reading ONE at left and right. Below the bank title in ornate script, two further allegorical female figures in classical dress appear at the lower left and right, one accompanied by a lamb, framing the promise-to-pay text and an oval ONE POUND panel at centre. The note is printed in blue and orange-red on white paper, with the issuing city GLASGOW, serial number, and date appearing in the upper field. |

The overall design is purely typographic and ornamental, with no pictorial vignette beyond the seal. |

Clydesdale Bank was majority-owned by Midland Bank from 1920, which gave it access to English banking capital at a moment when Scottish private banks were under real pressure to consolidate or fold. This note circulates just inside that window — issued while the bank was nominally independent in name but increasingly subordinated in practice.
Scottish one-pound notes retained legal currency status that their English counterparts lost after 1928, making this series the functional small-denomination workhorse it was designed to be. Heavy circulation wear is the norm for survivors.
