| Obverse description | Uncrowned, bare-headed effigy of King Charles III facing left, rendered in high relief against a frosted inner field, as sculpted by Martin Jennings. A small Tudor crown privy mark appears on the truncation of the neck, and the engraver's initials 'MJ' are inscribed below the bust. The outer ring, struck in gold-coloured alloy, bears the legend CHARLES III·DEI·GRA·REX·FID·DEF· flanking the date 2023, with the inscription ONE POUND repeated continuously around the outermost rim.
