Obverse description Uncrowned, bare-headed effigy of King Charles III facing left, rendered in high relief against a frosted inner field, as sculpted by Martin Jennings. A small Tudor crown privy mark appears on the truncation of the neck, and the engraver's initials 'MJ' are inscribed below the bust. The outer ring, struck in gold-coloured alloy, bears the legend CHARLES III·DEI·GRA·REX·FID·DEF· flanking the date 2023, with the inscription ONE POUND repeated continuously around the outermost rim. A heraldic shield device appears at the base of the outer ring below the legend.

Reverse description The reverse features two highly detailed bumblebees depicted in flight, rendered in fine naturalistic relief across a frosted central disc, as designed by Jennifer Lane. The insects are shown from above with outstretched wings and articulated legs, their abdomens rendered with exceptional entomological precision. To the left, the outer gold-coloured ring displays a repeating pattern of interlocking floral or Tudor-rose inspired geometric motifs, alongside the numeral '1' and the inscription POUND. The year 2023 appears repeatedly around the segmented outer rim of the coin. The contrasting frosted silver and polished gold-toned surfaces create a dramatic two-tone proof finish.
