The shield is flanked by two symmetrical olive branches forming a wreath tied at the base. A trilingual legend encircles the design along the periphery, reading CYPRUS in English, ΚΥΠΡΟΣ in Greek, and KIBRIS in Turkish, separated by raised dot stops. | Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse presents a naturalistic composition featuring multiple flowering specimens of Centaurea acamantis, an endemic thistle-like plant of Cyprus, rendered in fine relief against a mirror-polished field. The flowerheads display characteristic spiny bracts and radiating florets in various stages of bloom, with stems and foliage extending across the lower and right portions of the field. A bold rocky cliff face or coastal escarpment rises diagonally across the upper background, evoking the rugged Akamas peninsula habitat of the species. The denomination mark £1 is prominently placed in the upper left field in bold raised numerals. |
