The Bank of Nassau operated in the Bahamas under British colonial oversight, and its pound-denominated notes occupied an awkward monetary position — the Bahamas used sterling-based currency but remained economically tethered to both the British West Indies and the American dollar trade. By 1906, Nassau's commercial banking infrastructure was thin enough that individual note issues carried real weight in daily commerce rather than functioning as marginal supplements to coin.
P#A8A is among the scarcer catalogued entries for this issuer. The "Black" designation in the series name refers to the dominant ink color, a naming convention used to distinguish this issue from chromatic variants within the same denomination run.
