正面描述 The left panel carries the Bank of Scotland heraldic arms with two classical female supporters, a helmeted shield bearing the saltire, and the motto ribbon reading 'TANTO UBERIOR', all rendered in fine intaglio engraving, with the denomination 'ONE POUND' lettered below. The right panel presents an orange and grey guilloche underprint over which the promise-to-pay text is printed in a flowing script, with a central circular vignette containing an allegorical seated figure; the Governor and Treasurer signatures appear below, with the issue date and 'EDINBURGH' at the foot.

备注

George Waterston & Sons printed Bank of Scotland notes for decades from their Edinburgh premises, making this one of the few major British note series to have been produced entirely domestically — by a firm better known for stationery and security printing than for banknote work on the scale of Bradbury Wilkinson or De La Rue. The three signature combinations across this series track the tenure of successive cashiers with unusual precision: Beveridge, then Macfarlane, then Crawford, each paired with the same Governor, Elphinstone.

The 1942 and 1943 dates fall squarely within wartime austerity, when paper quality and ink supply were both under pressure.
