Reverse description Central oval vignette engraved in intaglio portrays a tranquil river or lake scene with a canoe on the water, native flora including tree ferns in the foreground, and a conical volcano rising in the background; kiwi birds are present at the lower edge of the vignette. The central vignette is flanked on either side by large ornate guilloche medallions bearing the numeral "1", all set against an elaborate pink-and-white lathe-work underprint covering the entire note.
