The Bank of Ireland's early post-independence pound notes occupy an awkward political moment: the Irish Free State had just established its Currency Commission, but commercial banks retained the right to issue their own notes under transitional arrangements. The Bank of Ireland was not going to surrender that privilege quietly, and this series extended it well into the late 1920s.
P#95D is one of several signature varieties within the broader 1920s run. Collectors frequently conflate the sub-types; the signature combination is the only reliable differentiator between catalogue values that can vary considerably.
