| Opmerkingen |
Cyprus joined the European Monetary System's exchange rate mechanism in 1992, but in 1979 the pound was already operating as a remarkably stable currency — pegged informally to a basket of trading partners' currencies rather than to any single anchor. The Central Bank had been independent of the colonial-era currency board framework only since 1963, and the note series of this period reflects a deliberate effort to project institutional confidence through consistent De La Rue production values.
The P#46 series ran through several signature varieties; Stararas represents one of the later signatories within the issue. Worth noting for collectors: paper quality on this type is prone to edge toning, and corner folds tend to break the surface fibres cleanly, making truly unhandled examples harder to find than the print run figures might suggest.
