Obverse description Brown and black on multicolour underprint. At left centre, a vignette of the Sultan Qaitbay mosque — the funerary complex completed in 1474 in Cairo's Northern Cemetery, regarded as a masterwork of late Mamluk architecture — dominates the design. Arabic and English inscriptions identifying the issuing authority and denomination are integrated within the surrounding framework.

Reverse description Multicolour intaglio composition evoking the grandeur of ancient Egyptian monumental architecture. At left, the colossal seated statues of Ramses II flanking the entrance to the Great Temple at Abu Simbel are rendered in fine detail, while the facade of the smaller temple of Queen Nefertari appears at right. The overall design draws on Egypt's Pharaonic heritage as a central visual theme.
