Barclays DCO — formally the Colonial Bank before its absorption into Barclays in 1925 — issued this note through its network spanning the British West Indies, West Africa, and parts of East Africa. The series was never legal tender in the United Kingdom; these were commercial bank notes issued under colonial banking ordinances, and their acceptance depended entirely on Barclays' local standing rather than government fiat.
Waterlow & Sons handled the printing throughout the eleven-year run, a pairing typical of British colonial commercial paper in the interwar period. The relatively long issue span for a single Pick reference suggests the plates saw minimal revision across printings.
