Opmerkingen

Guernsey's first formally catalogued note issue, this 1895 Pound predates the island's better-known twentieth-century series by decades. The States of Guernsey had long resisted dependence on English banking infrastructure, and paper issues of this period reflect that institutional stubbornness — Guernsey maintained its own currency administration well outside the orbit of the Bank of England, a position it has never fully abandoned.

Perkins, Bacon & Petch brought their intaglio security printing expertise to the job, the same firm responsible for some of the earliest British colonial stamp issues. Their involvement here signals that Guernsey treated this as a serious security document, not a provisional measure.
