| Obverse description | Laureate and draped bust of King Frederik III facing right, rendered in high relief in the Baroque manner, with long flowing hair and classical military drapery at the truncation. The portrait is positioned centrally within a broad field and encircled by a continuous Latin legend reading FRIDERIC: 3· D: G· DAN: NOR: VAN: GOT· REX·, identifying the king by name and his full royal titulature. The legend is separated from the outer rim by a bold beaded border running the full circumference of the coin. The overall engraving displays the confident, classicizing style characteristic of mid-seventeenth-century Danish royal coinage. |
