The poltura was a low-denomination Hungarian silver coin whose value hovered uneasily between the denar and the larger groschen, and Leopold I's issues from this period fall directly within the turbulent years of the Rákóczi uprising. Ferenc II Rákóczi launched his revolt against Habsburg rule in 1703, and small silver like this would have been among the last imperial Hungarian coinage to circulate freely before Rákóczi's forces began striking their own competing currency to fund the insurrection.
The ÉH and H reference divergence across three catalog numbers reflects genuine die and mint variation across the four-year span, with Kremnitz the principal striking facility.
