Obverse description The National Emblem of Bangladesh depicted in the central field, featuring a shapla (water lily) in relief, flanked on either side by upright rice sheaves forming a wreath-like border. Above the emblem appears a three-leafed sprig of tea leaves, surmounted by four five-pointed stars arranged in an arc, each star symbolising one of the four founding principles enshrined in the 1972 Constitution: nationalism, secularism, socialism, and democracy. The design is rendered in low relief against a flat field with no peripheral legend on this face.

Reverse description The denomination numeral '১' (1) in Bengali script is prominently displayed in large format at the centre of the field, flanked on either side by a four-petalled floral ornament. The legend 'বাংলাদেশ' (Bangladesh) curves along the upper portion of the field in Bengali script, with the date '১৯৭৪' (1974) inscribed below it. Along the lower arc, the denomination in words 'এক পয়সা' (One Poisha) is inscribed in Bengali script. The entire central composition is encircled by a wreath of stylised leaves and branches forming a continuous decorative border within the coin's rim.
