| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse presents a large fleurs-de-lis or cross fleury motif at centre, surmounted by a crown, with smaller cross pattée elements disposed in the angles of the design within the inner beaded circle. The peripheral legend, in uncial Latin, identifies the mint town of Edinburgh. The flan is noticeably irregular and cracked at the edges, consistent with the hammered billon fabric of this issue. The overall execution is bold but somewhat roughly rendered, as is typical of early sixteenth-century Scottish provincial coinage. |
