Obverse description Cast tin flan of irregular round shape bearing a three-line Arabic legend in the field, reading 'Sultan Zain al-Abidin Muazzam Shah', the name and title of the issuing ruler. The script is rendered in a bold, somewhat crude hand characteristic of Malay tin pitis coinage. The letters fill the entire obverse field with no border or decorative elements. The surface shows typical casting texture with minor flow lines and edge irregularities consistent with the primitive casting technique employed in the Sultanate of Batubara.
