Další informace

Jambi's pitis coinage occupied a peculiar niche in the tin-rich economy of eastern Sumatra, where the metal itself was locally abundant and the coins functioned as fractional currency in pepper and forest-product markets dominated by VOC trade pressure. The sultanate's output during this period was largely informal by European minting standards — dies were cut locally, and weight consistency was never tightly controlled, which is why surviving examples vary considerably even within the same nominal type.

Sultan Gede's reign coincided with repeated Dutch interventions in Jambi's internal politics, culminating in the VOC-backed succession disputes of the early 18th century that effectively ended meaningful Jambi monetary autonomy.
