An Arabic legend encircles the central hole, reading counter-clockwise from the base, rendering the name and title of Sultan Anom Sri Ingalaga. The inscription occupies the annular field between the hole and the bevelled octagonal periphery, with no additional ornamentation or border devices. The surface is characteristically rough and granular, consistent with the cast production technique typical of Jambi Sultanate tin coinage. |

The Sultanate of Jambi occupied the Batanghari river basin of Sumatra and operated under increasing VOC pressure throughout the eighteenth century — the Dutch had forced a trade monopoly on the sultanate's pepper and tin exports as early as 1680. These tin pitis were cast rather than struck, produced locally using the abundant alluvial tin of the Sumatran interior. The counter-clockwise orientation distinguishes this subtype within the HCM 177–181 series, a variation likely attributable to different casting molds rather than deliberate policy.
