Obverse description Crude hammered gold flan bearing the weight inscription '4 DWTT. 7 GR.' rendered in bold cursive script across the field, indicating a weight of 4 pennyweights and 7 grains. The numeral '4' appears at upper left, with the abbreviation for pennyweights ('no' with a tilde or mark of contraction) at upper right, and '7 gr.' below in a flowing cursive hand, all separated by pellet stops. The entire design is enclosed within a plain inner circle, surrounded by a milled or grained outer border characteristic of emergency Ormonde coinage. The irregular planchet and bold, hand-punched lettering reflect the exigent circumstances of its production during the Confederate Ireland period.
