| Reverse description | The reverse similarly displays the weight denomination '4 DWTT. 7 GR.' in large, bold cursive script across the plain gold field, with the numeral '4' at upper left, the abbreviated pennyweight mark at upper right, and '7 gr.' in the lower portion, separated by pellet stops. The inscription is contained within an inner circle, with the characteristic milled border of Ormonde emergency coinage running around the outer edge. The die appears to differ slightly from the obverse in the rendering of the script letterforms, consistent with hand-engraved emergency issue practice. The planchet remains irregular, attesting to the improvised nature of this royalist siege coinage struck during the Irish Confederate Wars. |
