The "Large type" designation exists because the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas issued a reduced-size successor during the same general period, creating a brief overlap that confuses date-by-date attribution. The distinction matters: KM#243.1 covers the heavier, wider planchet, while the small type carries its own KM number and different physical tolerances entirely.
Production of this coin spanned one of the most turbulent stretches in Philippine political history — the final years of the Marcos dictatorship, the 1986 People Power Revolution, and the early Aquino administration.
