Isidoro Torres was a revolutionary general who served under Emilio Aguinaldo during the Philippine-American War, a figure obscure enough outside Philippine military history that his appearance on circulating coinage surprised many collectors when the New Generation Currency series was introduced. The NGC coin series, launched by the BSP beginning in 2010, was a wholesale redesign intended to incorporate more sophisticated security features and honor regional heroes rather than exclusively national figures.
