| Reverse description | A stylized, swooping eagle head rendered in flowing curved lines dominates the central field, its beak open and facing right, forming an artistic composition that spirals inward toward the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas seal at center. The circular bank seal, positioned at lower center, depicts a smaller eagle head device surrounded by the legend 'BANGKO SENTRAL NG PILIPINAS' and three stars. | Additional information |
Artemio Ricarte was one of the few Filipino revolutionary leaders who refused to swear an oath of allegiance to the United States after the Philippine-American War, choosing permanent exile in Japan over submission. He lived in Yokohama for decades, running a restaurant, before returning to the Philippines in 1942 — escorted back by Japanese forces, which permanently complicated his historical reputation. The BSP's decision to feature him on circulating coinage required navigating that ambiguity directly.
