A trade token printed on paper rather than struck in metal — unusual for a tavern scrip of this type. Weyauwega, in Waupaca County, had a modest but active German-immigrant brewing culture in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and paper drink tokens of this kind were a low-cost alternative to celluloid or brass checks when a house wanted to pre-sell rounds or account for employee tabs. At 34 x 21 mm, this is closer in scale to a ticket stub than a banknote, almost certainly cut from a printed sheet in-house.
