| Reverse description | A spirited horse is depicted in full prance, facing left, with all four legs raised in a dynamic leaping posture, its mane and tail rendered with fine linear detail. The Latin legend 'ONE PICE' arcs along the left periphery, while the Devanagari inscription 'एक पैसा' is positioned to the right. The date appears in large numerals along the lower field, with a small raised star device at the uppermost point of the design. A small mint mark dot is present at the base of the design below the date on certain issues. |

| Additional information |
The 1 Pice was part of the first coinage series issued by the Republic of India following independence, introduced as the new government worked to displace the old British Indian types. The anna system it belonged to was already on borrowed time — India decimalized in 1957, rendering this series obsolete after just a few years of production. Short-lived by design rather than circumstance.
