| Beschrijving voorzijde | Eight-segment radial design encircling a central Tibetan legend reading 'Druk' (Bhutan). Each segment contains one of the Eight Auspicious Symbols of Tibetan Buddhism, arranged clockwise from the upper left: the Wheel of Dharma, the Umbrella of Sovereignty, the Golden Fish of Good Fortune, the Conch Shell, the Lotus, the Treasure Vase, the Endless Knot, and the Victory Banner. Two die varieties are known, distinguished by the size of the fish eye motif (small and large). The overall composition reflects the strong influence of Tibetan Buddhist iconography on early Bhutanese coinage. |
