Obverse description Central field features a heraldic shield bearing the arms of Grand Master Claude de la Sengle, displayed within a circular border. The shield is surmounted by a grand master's cross and flanked by decorative elements typical of Hospitaller coinage of the period. The design is rendered in low relief consistent with hammered copper coinage. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, reading the grand master's name and title. The flan is irregular in shape, as is characteristic of hand-struck piccioli of the Malta period.
