| Beschrijving keerzijde | The open field at centre displays the denomination numeral 1 above the inscription PIASTRE in bold raised lettering. Below, two tall rice plant stems with full grain heads are depicted in fine relief, their broad leaves sweeping outward to either side, symbolising the agricultural wealth of Indochina. The curved legend FÉDÉRATION INDOCHINOISE is distributed around the upper periphery, reading from lower left to lower right. The design is enclosed within the same repeating leaf-pattern border as the obverse, maintaining a unified aesthetic across both sides. |

In 1946, the Monnaie de Paris produced a series of pattern pieces for French Equatorial Africa and associated territories as colonial monetary arrangements were being reconsidered in the immediate postwar reorganization of the French Union. This piastre pattern was among several competing proposals that never advanced to circulation — France ultimately restructured the Indochinese and colonial monetary systems along different lines, leaving these essais as the only physical record of a monetary path not taken.
